Going to Estes Park and seeing the Rocky Mountain National Forest has been something that we have wanted to do since moving to Colorado. Finally we made the trip up there and it was everything we hoped for! We scored an awesome deal at the YMCA under their military family getaway program. It included all of our lodging and meals for a great price (Jeff's favorite part)! The Bethel family also came with us making the trip all the better!
When we first got there we walked around downtown Estes Park which was such a cute town. There was a Scandinavian Festival going on with some fun booths. The stores there all had an eclectic flare that you would expect from a mountain town.
We did some hiking the next day. Grant rode in the hiking backpack for the first time and did great! He really liked it and he loved checking out the different sights and sounds. Each time we passed the river he would stare in amazement! He really loved it!
No trip to Estes Park would be complete without some ghost hunting! We went to the famous Stanley Hotel that served as inspiration of the Stephen King book/movie The Shining. Apparently, the hotel is really haunted...we didn't see any ghost and I was TOTALLY okay with the less than "ghostly" experience!
No vacation is complete without a little home run derby! Seriously, there isn't a more dysfunctional group to play! Each swing and miss was immediately prompted by harassment by the peanut gallery!!! It was hysterical!
Each night we capped off with some time by the fire pit taking in the view. Life doesn't get much better than sitting by the fire drinking wine and taking in the Rocky Mountains. We loved our time at Estes Park and wished we could have spent more time up there. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and we really enjoyed our time with the Bethel family!
